BRIGHTENING THE LIVES OF SENIORS IN OUR COMMUNITY
More than 300 seniors enjoy regular visits by Rabbi Yossi Kanelsky, who goes often to adult centers in Old Bridge, Piscataway and Morganville. For many of these seniors, this is their only link to Judaism as they are homebound and cannot travel.

TENDING TO RELIGIOUS NEEDS
In addition to providing spiritual guidance and general counseling, the Rabbi speaks to the seniors about the holidays in their native Russian language, lends a listening ear, and assists them with pre-planning funerals, healthcare issues, hanging up mezuzahs, supplying tefilin, and so on. Holiday concerts and entertainment are provided which the seniors eagerly look forward to and delight in.

BRIDGING THE DIVIDE
Before Chanukah and Purim, the JTeens assist in preparing Chanukah kits and Mishloach Manos baskets for the seniors, and then accompany Rabbi Kanelsky on the actual holidays to distribute these packages, sing, dance, and interact with the seniors. This creates an inter-generational impact, connecting our young teens to the past, bridging the divide and creating a strong Jewish identity and link across the generations.

YIZKOR AND HIGH HOLIDAY SERVICES
Center for Jewish Life also welcomes these seniors at our synagogue, where they can attend services free of charge. Partnering once again with the adult centers, the seniors are transported to CJL every year on the High Holidays for services, and on Sukkos, Pesach, and Shavuos for Yizkor. It is a wonderful opportunity for them to participate in these special prayers and retain a connection to their local Jewish community.
